    The Thornybush Game Reserve is home to Waterbuck Lodge, a classic South African safari lodge with a waterhole which attracts wildlife.

    Thornybush Private Game Reserve is home to an active ecosystem with an abundance of wildlife species, consisting of 147 mammals, 114 reptiles, 507 birds, 49 fish, 34 amphibians and 336 trees. Wildlife enthusiasts or first-time safari-goers will be pleasantly surprised during their stay at Waterbuck Lodge. With an ever-present abundance of wildlife, the savannah landscape provides for great game viewing.

    Accommodating an exclusive 8 guests at any given time, Waterbuck Lodge’s 4 suites are decorated in authentic African style and comfortable luxury. This intimate accommodation ensures that your stay will be tailored to suit your desires.

    The beautifully-decorated rooms have their own dressing rooms with en-suite bathrooms with bathtubs that boast an impressive view of the untamed bush. An outdoor shower will allow you to be refreshed by the fresh air and sounds of the wild. Each suite offers a view of either the waterhole or the dam from a verandah.

    Waterbuck Lodge suites are inter-accessible via pathways that meander securely through the lodge. A central area hosts a bar, dining area, swimming pool and deck that overlooks the waterhole where wildlife congregates to drink. The sparkling water of the lodge’s swimming pool provides a relief from the adventurous days. Whether you’re in search of a refreshing dip, a perfectly bronzed tan or a sundowner, the central entertainment area will cater to your desires.

    Morning Game Drives

    After an early wake-up call and a morning snack, you will be driven out into the bush in an open safari vehicle. Thornybush is a private game reserve in the Greater Kruger Area. Certain areas allow for you to embark form the vehicle in search of the cause of the spoor.

    Afternoon Game Drives

    After a high tea, you will hop onto the 4×4 vehicle once again, this time in search of the nocturnal bush life. Various times of the day ensure sightings of differing species, so have your torch handy as you uncover nocturnal creatures.

    Bush Walks

    Escape into the bush on a leisurely walk to learn more about the fauna and flora of the bush, or accompany a ranger and tracker as they follow the tracks left in the sand. Walks allow you to get a closer look at the plants and smaller creatures and listen to the traditional tales behind the plants and trees told by your guide.

    Hot Air Balloon Excursion

    What could be more romantic than a hot air balloon safari as dawn breaks over the Blyde River. You may be lucky enough to spot wildlife, else just soak up the spectacular scenery from above.
