    The Springbok Lodge

The Springbok Lodge epitomises the perfect safari experience with beautifully appointed tented suites, service excellence, superb cuisine and prolific wildlife – ensuring an unforgettable experience.

Nestled in the heart of the KwaZulu-Natal Battlefields, the Nambiti Reserve and Springbok Lodge offer guests a chance to unwind in a picture-perfect setting. Well positioned off the N3, the main route between Johannesburg and Durban, Springbok Lodge is just a four-and-a-half hour drive from the busy metropolis of Johannesburg and a mere three-and-a-half hours from the aromatic coastal city of Durban. The breath-taking mountains of the central Drakensberg lie an easy one-and-a-half hours’ drive away.

Making the lodge even more accessible is the 1.2km landing strip for light aircraft. Helicopters can comfortably land directly at the lodge.

Whether Springbok Lodge is your intended destination or the base from which to explore the surrounding Battlefields and Drakensberg you will be assured an exceptional stay and safari experience – the lodge continues to achieve its AA Superior Accommodation Accreditation since 2009.

    Nambiti Private Game Reserve

Springbok Lodge is situated in the Nambiti Private Game Reserve, a conservancy offering 22 000 acres of pristine, Malaria-free bushveld. The Reserve is home to the Big Five, as well as Cheetah, Hippo and over 30 species of plains game. Nature lovers will enjoy the area’s biodiversity, with Thornveld and majestic Acacia trees complementing extensive grasslands which mirror the plains of Central Africa.

The abundant natural water system, with perennial rivers and the beautiful waterfall and cascades on the Sundays River, makes for a unique sanctuary, attracting several rare bird species and an enviable array of raptors and vultures.

Feast your senses on the magnificent sights, sounds and smells of this untouched African bush. With every dawn, renew your bond with nature as you embark on a safari with your experienced and knowledgeable field guide.

    Accommodation

While the Big Five experience alone is enough to attract visitors, guests staying at Springbok Lodge leave with a different idea of “camping”… we call it Glamping!

Of our 21 luxury en suite tents, 13 standard two sleepers and 8 family units (4 sleepers). In total we can sleep 58 guests offering 5-star equivalent opulence out in the African bush.

    Luxury Tented Suites

All tents are air conditioned – keeping you cool in the hot summer months and warm in the chilly winter months with the addition of electric blankets to keep guests extra snug.

Each of our luxury tents have their own viewing deck with chairs, a king-size bed (also available as twin beds), a hospitality tray, complimentary sherry, safety deposit box, hairdryer and complimentary toiletries (the basics). Our family units have a king bed plus two extra single beds (also available as 4 singles) in one open plan bedroom.

All tents have an open plan bathroom with a double basin, indoor bath tub with hand shower and a private open air outdoor shower.

Between game drives enjoy unsurpassed views from your tent deck or from the pool whilst relaxing with your favourite novel, or keeping up to date with family and friends by sharing your experience.

At the end of a thrilling day of game viewing and birding, indulge in a hot bath or enjoy the rush of an outdoor shower under the star-studded African sky.

    Experience

    Game drives

Head off on an open game-viewing vehicle before sunrise or in the afternoon with your field guide who will ensure that you get the most out of the experience and enjoy the abundance of wildlife and unspoiled African vistas. There’ll be a chance to quench your thirst and stretch your legs during the drinks break while enjoying the sounds and silences of the bush. The memory of sipping a steaming cup of Amarula coffee or enjoying a G & T with the sunset in such humbling surroundings is one that will be remembered forever.

    Boma dinners

On fine summer nights and balmy winter nights guests are treated to an outdoor dinner around a crackling fire in our boma, an experience which is sure to be one of many highlights of your stay. Boma dinners are served buffet style with either a Potjiekos selection or a traditional South African braai.

    Bush breakfasts

The bush breakfasts are exciting for our guests as well as our staff who literally pack up everything and set up ‘kitchen’ in a scenic spot. Often our plans are ‘put to bed’ though, when the Ellies invite themselves to breakfast!

    Fishing

The Reserve’s well stocked fresh water dams offer keen fisherman the chance to indulge in this tranquil pastime. Head out with your ranger and test your skills at some Bass, Tilapia, Grass Carp and Barbel fishing. (All fishing is on a ‘catch-and-release’ basis). Fishing tackle is available through the lodge or you are welcome to bring your own along. Recommended months for fishing are September through to February.

    Weddings

The team at Springbok Lodge will make every effort to ensure your safari wedding is a dream come true… we do not sell wedding packages – each wedding enquiry will be quoted according to the requirements of the bride and groom. We can accommodate weddings of up to 50 guests only.
