Shamwari Private Game Reserve is one of the leading private conservation initiatives in South Africa and provides travellers with excellent wildlife viewing opportunities, including the renowned Big 5.
Shamwari Private Game Reserve offers a range of luxury 5-Star lodging including Eagles Crag, where travellers will experience some of the best mountainous views, Long Lee Manor, a large Edwardian manor house, Bayethe Tented Lodge, for a rustic, yet comfortable safari experience, and the luxurious Founders Lodge, an exclusive and secluded getaway. Shamwari prides itself in looking after the environment and ensuring future generations share the same love for the natural world – this is why the reserve offers family-friendly accommodation at Riverdene Family Lodge and Sarili Lodge.
South Africa enjoys a warm climate year-round. Winter temperatures range between 7 and 22°C while summer temperatures reach between 16 and 36°C.
Shamwari offers plenty of indoor and outdoor activities for little ones. We recommend that families travelling with children stay at the Riverdene Family Lodge, which has a supervised children’s play area.
Your allocated ranger will draw up a customised programme for you on the day of your arrival, which includes game drives and guided walks.
South Africa is a nation that is home to a vast amount of cultures. In total, we have 11 official languages, including English, which is widely spoken throughout the country. The local population groups and cultures include Zulu, Xhosa, Swazi, Sotho-Tswana, Tsonga, Venda, Afrikaners, English, Cape Coloured, Indians, Khoi and San.
Apart from the Explorer Camp, all of Shamwari’s lodges come equipped with complimentary wi-fi.
Shamwari is located in the Eastern Cape, a malaria free area. As such, there is no need to bring any preventative tablets or syrup, other than your prescription medication. However, we do highly recommend that you bring the following:
Cameras, lenses and binoculars
Light clothing for summer safaris
Bathing suits for the pool areas
Sunscreen and hats
Warmer clothing for winter stays
