Twenty-two thousand acres of unspoiled wilderness located at Elandslaagte, Nambiti Private Game Reserve is a land as rugged as its history. On the plains where the Anglo-Boer battles once thundered, the fight for supremacy is now the exclusive realm of its teeming wildlife population.

Set just two and a half hours from Durban and four hours from Johannesburg, Nambiti a place of infinite charm and breathtaking diversity. Regarded as one of the nation’s most ambitious conservation initiatives, Nambiti Private Game Reserve is one of the few reserves in South Africa where the majesty of the Big 5 can be experienced free from the threat of malaria.

Whatever your purpose and budget, Nambiti has the space to accommodate it. From romantic bungalows with remarkable views over the bush to lavish wedding venues and conference centres, Nambiti Private Game Reserve offers celebration, adventure, quiet reflection and the opportunity to reconnect with those you love.

Balancing conservation goals with the needs of the local community, Nambiti has created close to 500 full time jobs and is committed to up-skilling and promoting its talent to leadership positions. Community representatives sit on the board and have a voice in how the reserve is managed and maintained. The philosophy of openness and shared destiny has seen Nambiti grow from strength to strength, delighting more than 70,000 local and international guests every year.

Nambiti Plains Game Lodge ★★★★

Nambiti Plains Game Lodge is an exclusive, five star lodge set in the centre of the scenic Nambiti Reserve. Imaginatively weaved and constructed, situated on the waterhole edge overlooking the natural plains. The Lodge’s emphasis is on a modern, yet eco-friendly minimalist approach.

Nambiti Plains is located right in the bush with no manicured gardens, thereby reducing the impact on the surrounding environment. A fine line between luxury and the reality of the African wild. Guests can relax with a cocktail on the deck, take a dip in the swimming pool and watch as the animals drink at the waterhole.

Wildlife

Nambiti is the only game reserve in the area with the Big 5 and currently has over 40 other species of game including cheetah, giraffe, hippo, hyena, impala, eland and zebra. The Reserve’s 26 000 acres boasts incredible biodiversity; including savannah, thornveld, riverine bush, acacia trees and extensive grasslands that mirror the plains of central Africa. In addition, the Reserve is completely malaria free, falling far outside the low risk belt.

After a smoldering summer’s day, thunderstorms often occur in the late afternoon; these brief but dramatic displays are a quintessential part of the bush experience. The dry winters are the best time to view game as the animals concentrate around water, or warm up in sunny clearings. By night in clear conditions, stargazing is truly a magical experience as the sky comes alive. The river offers excellent Yellowfish fishing and there are a number of dams within the reserve that are well-stocked with various fish species.
