MalaMala is one of the oldest and most historical private game reserve in South Africa and the first to make the transition from hunting to photographic safari’s. It is the blueprint on which the South African safari industry was built. Every aspect of the MalaMala Camp is designed to appreciate and enjoy the view of the surrounding wilds. Pathways wind their way along the perimeter of the camp to reveal individual ochre colored units tucked into the greenery which flanks the Sand River. Massive trees and rolling green lawns are filled with birdsong, with the occasional antelope or elephant which seeks the succulence of greenery.
Larger and more luxurious than the luxury rooms, each suite has a panoramic view across the surrounding bushveld and the wilderness beyond. Large sliding doors and a wooden deck allow one the opportunity to appreciate ones surrounding in comfort and privacy between game drives. Each suite has an en-suite bathroom with double vanities, a shower, bath and separate WC.

Designed with single travelers in mind, the river facing single room has a panoramic view across the Sand River and the wilderness beyond. Large sliding doors and a wooden deck allow one the opportunity to appreciate ones surrounding in comfort and privacy between game drives. The en-suite bathroom comprises a vanity, shower, bath and WC and a separate outdoor shower.
MalaMala Game Reserve has plenty of thrilling safari activities on offer for a range of travellers, from those seeking a unique adventure, to children exploring the bush for the very first time. Guests can enjoy daily game drives in open Land Rovers, where they have the opportunity to view the Big 5, as well as a variety of other wildlife including giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and more. Photographic safaris are a popular activity, and with a dedicated photographic safari vehicle offering bean bags for camera stability, storage boxes for the equipment, under-seat lighting and a camera mount, guests are ensured a brilliant experience. Children’s activities include animal tracking (using spoor), a bush breakfast, special movie nights and basic survival skills training.
