Children aged 12 and over are welcome, while those under 12 are accommodated when the lodge is booked exclusively.
The eight secluded suites have been designed for minimal environmental impact. Local stone, wood and thatch blend seamless with the savannah, allowing guests to comfortably connect with the natural beauty of their surroundings. Note that the suites are large enough to accommodate two additional sleeper-beds for children.
Makanyane prides itself on the exceptional quality of its food and wines – adding yet another unforgettable dimension to your stay.
An enticing fusion of local and international flavours are skillfully prepared by executive chef Mauritz Greef, and fine vintages from the award-winning wine list serve to complement each bite. Pure magic.
Breakfasts are taken with your game drive guide, while other meals are typically private, including buffet lunches, afternoon tea, as well as a la carte dinners. A special menu is available for children.
What better way to soothe body and mind than letting a highly trained beauty therapist pamper you? Choose from a comprehensive list of health and beauty treatments, and then indulge either within the secluded spa area, or on the private deck of your suite. There are a variety of locations where stunning views can be enjoyed during treatments.
Travelling through 1,800 hectares of Makanyane’s private grounds, and then out into 75,000 hectares that make up the Madikwe Game Reserve, your guide will share a wealth of wildlife knowledge.
Lion, elephant, black and white rhino, and leopard are here in abundance. Cheetah, giraffe, as well as spotted and brown hyena thrive on the Reserve. This is also one of the best places in Southern Africa to see the elusive and rare wild dog.
Game drives – Two daily game drives, in the early morning and late afternoon, offer a chance to get up close to Madikwe’s vast array of flora and fauna, including the “Big Five”. Note that the afternoon drive, after a brief stop to enjoy sundowners, continues into the night to reveal nocturnal wildlife.
Game Walks – For even more in-depth exploration of the bush, a game walk is essential. An armed and experienced guide will educate and enlighten as you are led along paths that follow the footsteps of animals. Feel the thrill of walking through the wild and wonderful environment.
Wildlife Conservation – As one of several ways guests can give back, you are offered the opportunity to accompany conservation and veterinary staff on various excursions.
Sleep under the Stars – Hidden deep in the bush, on the Lodge’s private ground, is a two-story sleeping deck. This is a truly spectacular way to brush up on your astronomy.
Kids Activities & Junior Ranger Course – Madikwe Game Reserve is renowned as an ideal place for children and families to safely enjoy the excitement of an authentic safari experience.
The Junior Ranger Course runs for two hours each morning, after the early game drive and breakfast. The programme is geared for children aged 5 to 10, but those under 5, if accompanied by an adult, are welcome to join the educational and entertaining activities.
Mini-game walks and through to archery are on the agenda and kids learn about culture and ecology. The importance of conservation is instilled in their minds and, once they have completed the course, children are presented with their very own certificate.
