The inviting tented rooms at Khwai River Lodge feature panoramic private decks. They’re the perfect theatre from which to enjoy the drama of the wild. After a day spent in the savannah, unwind in the tranquil pool or share stories by the fire. Want a massage on your private deck? All you have to do is ask.
Get up close and personal with the fascinating landscape on a Khwai River walk. Spot and identify animal tracks with our bush concierge and see colourful insects in vivid detail.
Sip on delicious cocktails made with Okavango Gin as the sun sets over a hippo pool. See the majestic animals splash happily as the sun casts an orange glow over the landscape.
As the crystal-clear skies fill with stars, embark on an evening game drive by the river. Using a telescope, focus in on constellations such as the Southern Cross. Then, observe nocturnal animals and wildlife as the temperatures cool.
Khwai River Lodge holds a special place in Botswana’s history. Opened in 1971 by Harry Selby, it was one of the first lodges to promote safaris with a conservation ethos. Its proximity to the Delta floodplains also led Selby to build the ‘bridge over the river Khwai’. Today this serves as the famous North Gate entrance into the Reserve.
Our indulgent tented rooms are built for game spotting. Spy wildebeest from the elevated private deck, or swing in a hammock as zebra and elephants saunter past. Inside, a netted four-poster bed, elegant bathroom, air conditioning and minibar all provide welcome refreshment after a day’s pursuits.
For a more secluded experience, check in to the private suite. The heated splash pool is a sublime spot to watch an African sunset.
Our safari accommodation lets nature come to you. Each lodge is surrounded by land teeming with life. Witness the elephants herding their young from your private elevated deck. Or revive at sundown in a private plunge pool – you might hear the call of slaty egret bidding each other goodnight.
Tucked away from the main rooms, our private suite offers a more secluded, romantic experience. Submerge in a heated plunge pool as antelope dash only metres away. Or take an alfresco shower at dawn to witness the savannah coming to life as you do.
