Situated in the Waterberg, 2.5 hours from Johannesburg, Kaingo Game Reserve is the malaria-free, safari holiday you’ve been searching for.

Accommodating family, friends or business associates, the lodges facilities, coupled with the spectacular location and passion for the environment, make this an unforgettable destination. Sweeping across 22 500 acres of bush veld savannah, river, valley and magic mountain landscapes, Kaingo represents a piece of Africa as it used to be with unique wildlife experiences, thrilling activities and picturesque natural assets in abundance.

With the mighty Mokolo river weaving through breath taking landscapes, Kaingo has distilled the finest natural wildlife safari offerings for the enjoyment of guests.

Particular attention is given to activity based, adventure loving, comfort seeking, nature tourists who want to have an authentic experience in the comfort of this home-from-home lodge.

For your pleasure, Kaingo offers an extensive list of activities from which to choose. Whether game drive, bush walk, sunset river cruise, or a private dinner for two, there is never enough time to exhaust the many ways there are to love this place.

Guests of Kaingo are treated to unique personal experiences of the bushveld and exciting close-up game viewing under the expert guidance of qualified field guides who love to share their knowledge of the African bush and its wildlife.

You can expect to spot a wide variety of game species, from elephant, lion, buffalo, giraffe, sable antelope, tsessebe, nyala, waterbuck, klipspringer and zebra, in addition to abundant birdlife. More elusive animals such as brown hyena, serval, African wildcat and the shy leopard might be seen on the night drives.

Children of all ages are welcome to join the morning and evening drives when accompanied by an adult. Families are either accommodated on their own game viewer or with other families which gives the kids a chance to make new friends while on holiday. Child minders are available to assist should you wish to enjoy a child free safari during your stay.

Kaingo functions primarily as a conservation area, where the staff strives to restore the bushveld savanna to its pristine state. As custodians of nature for the next generation we have an opportunity and thus responsibility to make a significant contribution to the protection of the country’s biodiversity. Kaingo Game Reserve is a victory for conservation. In an increasingly busy world, many are seeking two elusive luxuries: silence and space. Indulge in an abundance of both at Kaingo.

Leopard House ★★★★

Leopard House has two en-suite bedrooms, together with a lounge and dining area, and walls adorned with original works of art. A private outside patio area features a plunge pool, thatched lapa and fire pit area where meals and quality time can be enjoyed in privacy, if so preferred.

Everything you’d expect in a luxury safari house is here. Earthy colours, leather and dark wood finishes give this unit a nostalgic air.

Elephant Lodge ★★★★

Reminiscent of a traditional African safari camp, Kaingo Elephant Lodge offers a luxurious safari accommodation experience. Built from natural stone with thatch roofs, the lodge has an olde worlde-Africa atmosphere while being completely contemporary. All comforts are catered for in the plush suites and throughout this carefully appointed luxury safari lodge, surrounded with nature inspired décor and accent colours.

Just 28 guests in total can be accommodated at Elephant Lodge, with the focus on personal attention, superb service and complete comfort. Elephant Lodge is equipped with complimentary Wi-Fi for lodge guests wanting to connect to home.

Kaingo Wildlife

Kaingo is home to over 50 different mammals including lion, elephant, buffalo and leopard. It is home to several endangered and rare species too, such as tsessebe, brown hyena, pangolin, honey badger and sable. Several nocturnal species can best be seen at night including aardvark, serval, bush baby and African wildcat.

The grassy plains and savanna abound with animals such as giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and impala, while predators are always close by. It is the diversity of habitats on the reserve that encourages such a wide range of wildlife as well as over 350 bird species, including rare species such as African Finfoot, Narina Trogon and Striped Pipets.

The elephant, buffalo, black and white rhino, lion and leopard were originally named the Big Five due to the significant challenge and potential danger that they presented to hunters. They symbolise the ultimate in African wildlife. On Kaingo, the herds of elephant, buffalo and the lions make regular appearances. The sleek, shy leopards with their nocturnal habits and inaccessible habitat may sometimes elude the visitor.

The Reserve

Kaingo is a 22,000 acre (9,000 hectare) private game reserve in the Waterberg District of the Limpopo Province, South Africa. A pleasant 2.5-hour drive, or an easy 45-minute flight from Johannesburg to our airstrip, makes Kaingo one of the most accessible premier, malaria-free, big game reserves in the country. It is a declared protected area with Critical Biodiversity 1 classification and a core area of the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve, officially declared by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 2001.

As a declared Nature Reserve with a primary objective of Natural Resource Conservation, the Reserve is run along pure, sustainable management and development principles, with an exceptionally low developmental and tourism footprint, offering unrivalled exclusivity and privacy.
