The reserve is renowned for its luxury lodging as well as brilliant wildlife viewings – the area is rich in biodiversity with many animals re-introduced to the bushveld. A mere 50-minute drive north-east of Port Elizabeth and is located along the Greater Addo area. Amakhala is renowned for its excellent wildlife viewing and guests are sure to encounter some incredible animals. Animals that roam freely throughout the reserve include lion, cheetah, the white rhino, elephant, Cape buffalo, various species of buck and antelope, as well as giraffe and zebra. Animals can be viewed on game drives which are conducted by trained guides, or even from the comfort of your safari lodge.

Game viewing is not affected by the weather, seasons or time of year. Animals are active 365 days a year. If there is something you are specifically looking to see, consult with one of our safari experts upon making your booking.
Additionally, it’s recommended that you bring warmer clothing along for the trip as it may get cold, regardless of the time of year.
Apart from Quatermain’s 1920 Camp, complimentary wi-fi is available at all lodges and camps at Amakhala.
Children of all ages are welcome at HillsNek Safaris, Hlosi Game Lodge, Woodbury Lodge, Leeuwenbosch Country House and Woodbury Tented Camp. We recommend that families stay at Hlosi Game Lodge as it offers a children’s programme.
Amakhala Game Reserve is located in the Eastern Cape, a malaria-free area. As such, there is no need to bring any preventative tablets or syrup, other than your prescription medication. However, we do highly recommend that you bring the following:
– Cameras, lenses and binoculars
– Light clothing for summer safaris
– Bathing suits for the pool areas
– Walking shoes
– Sunscreen and hats
– Warmer clothing for winter stays
