Livingstone is the gateway to the Victoria Falls and the beautiful game reserves that surround it
If your dream is to see the Victoria Falls in Zambia Livingstone is where you will be heading. The area and town of Livingstone is named after the famous Scottish explorer, Dr. David Livingstone, the first European to discover the Falls, and the man who named it in honour of the British queen at the time. The town was founded in 1905 and is, of course, most popular due to its close proximity to Victoria Falls, one of the largest and most beautiful waterfalls in the world. Livingstone is considered as a gateway for anyone seeking outdoor adventure and exploration, adrenaline-rush activities, wildlife experiences, the amazing sight of the Falls or even a romantic getaway.
Victoria Falls lies on the beautiful Zambezi River and because of the incredible noise of the water and the mist that surrounds it, it is referred to as ‘the smoke that thunders’. The Falls’ combined width (1,708 metres) and height (108 metres) makes it the world’s largest waterfall. It’s about twice as high as Niagara Falls and more than double the width of Horseshoe Falls (two famous waterfalls in North America).
