South Africa is a country of absolute beauty and is exceptionally unique in every way, from the exquisite destinations and safaris to the friendly people. There are both big cities and small towns to visit, each with its own personality.
There is so much on offer in this country, with adventure and sport; traditional food and drink; a variety of different cultures; and scenic views of cityscapes and nature, stunning beaches, safaris and wildlife.
In Gauteng, you will find Johannesburg and its close neighbour Pretoria, the capital of South Africa. Pretoria is known for its beautiful Jacaranda trees which paint the whole region a luscious lilac when they bloom every year, and is home to the Union Buildings, the Voortrekker Monument, and other historical sites. Johannesburg is a bustling inland city which is home to many business headquarters, television studios, artists, and musicians. There is no such thing as boredom here, whether you attend a show or a food market, go to the Mall of Africa, or a botanical garden.
In the Western Cape is the stunning Cape Town and in the Eastern Cape is the slightly smaller Port Elizabeth. The stretch between these two cities is known as the Garden Route, and is a popular road trip with many quaint coastal stops along the way.
The Mother City, as Cape Town is known, is where the fantastic Table Mountain resides, and it can be seen from almost all corners of the city. It is a trendy cosmopolitan destination full of artistic wonder, the distinct Cape Malay culture, and the most scenic sunsets. The Western Cape is celebrated for its numerous vineyards, and also boasts 28 of South Africa’s 44 Blue Flag beaches.
Further north on the eastern coast is the tropical paradise of Durban in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. This harbour city juxtaposes the traditional Zulu culture with Indian influences from South Africa’s large Indian community. This is a classic vacation spot, especially for families, because of its wonderful climate, beach lifestyle, and food. A trip to Durban cannot be without a stop at uShaka Marine World, a tremendous marine theme park with activities for all, young and old. Adrenalin-chasers, on the other hand, can do the bungee-style Big Swing from the top of FIFA World Cup 2010 Stadium, the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
No matter which side of the country you find yourself in, you won’t be far from a game reserve or national park, where you can come face to face with South Africa’s wildlife. And in the same way, no matter where in South Africa you are, you are sure to be met with smiles and beauty of all kinds at every turn.
