One of the best travel experiences I ever had was when I visited Mauritius.
Mauritius is renowned for its gorgeous beaches and sparkling turquoise ocean. The beaches are one of the island’s most popular attractions – they are perfect for swimming, water skiing, sailing, windsurfing and a range of other amazing water sports. Some of the best, most popular public beaches include Grand Gaube Resort, Belle Mare Hotel and Le Morne Hotel.
With a tropical climate, Mauritius is a great place to visit all year round. The average temperature throughout the year is 30 degrees Celsius and temperatures are warmest during the wet season (November to May). The best time of year to enjoy the stunning beaches and towns of the island is during the dry season, between May and November.
Mauritius is an adventure-filled paradise, with plenty of exciting outdoor activities on offer, from deep sea fishing to safari submarines, whale watching and underwater sea walks. Blue Bay Marine Park offers fantastic snorkelling opportunities and glass-bottomed boat rides, and the tourist capital of Grand Bale boasts a fabulous nightlife as the party town of the island.
Seven Coloured Earths
The “seven coloured earth” of Chamarel is a must-see, with its impressive and unusual colour sand dunes. The natural phenomenon is a geological formation, and the sand is made up of seven different colours – red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow. The best time to view the exquisite sand dune is at sunrise.
Some of the other main attractions include Le Morne Brabant’s stunning beaches, Chamarel’s unique scenery and Port Louis’s bustling markets. Mauritius is well-known for its world-class shopping, where travellers can bargain and negotiate the best deals at the markets and bazaars. The island’s delicious blend of Indian, French, African and Chinese cuisine can be found at the local restaurants.
