The Baviaanskloof The Baviaanskloof Wilderness Area lies approximately 120 km. west of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa and comprises of approximately 270 000 ha. of unspoiled, rugged mountainous terrain. It is accessible only by gravel road an engineering masterpiece by Thomas Bains built between 1880 and 1890 it twists precariously along mountain slopes. It is 170 km's long and there are 40 river crossings, you will need a 4x4 or 4x2. Buffalo have been reintroduced into the area which is also populated by Kudu and Leopard. Lions will be introduced in the near future. Starting in the East at Komdomo, the road leads through the rugged beauty of the "Grootrivier" Gorge on its winding path through this pristine conservancy, all the way towards Willowmore in the West. A total distance of about 203 km. The area offers a wide range of eco-recreational opportunities as well as an unique wilderness experience! |

The Tsitsikamma National Park
The Tsitsikamma National Park is 160kms west of Port Elizabeth. Its prefectly placed the Tsitsikamma Mountains and Indian Ocean, and stretches from the Bloukrans River in the West to Clarkson in the East. Tsitsikamma is a khoi word meaning "place of sparkling water". This National Park, acres of beautiful, indigenous forest, is home to centuries old trees such as Yellowwood, Stinkwood, Hard Pear, Ironwood, Kamassi and many others. The area has great accommodation and there are many things you can do in the Tsitsikamma National Park, including plenty of hiking and mountain trails, one of the most popular goes over a “wobbly” suspension bridge. Another popular hike is the famous otter trail. Adventure activities include blackwater tubing, a tree top canopy tour high in the indigenous forest, the World's highest bungee jump (at 216 metres!), scuba diving. But, if soaking up the sun is more your thing, there is also a quaint little beach at the beginning of the main hiking trail. There is a variety of accommodation available from camp sites in the Baviaanskloof and the Tsitsikamma National Park, we can organise stays in a cave on a working farm or in a luxury guest house with spa. |
