    Xugana Island Lodge ★★★★

    Xugana Island Lodge is situated on a private concession and takes full advantage of this magnificent site. An expansive deck and al fresco dining area overlooks the vast, pristine body of water that makes up the permanent Okavango Delta.

    The lounge, bar and dining areas are set back under the Ebony and African Mangosteen tree canopy in open-sided thatched structures, and the swimming pool, located within the mature gardens in the centre of the island, is a perfect place to relax.

    Lodge Facilities

    • FAMILIES – Accepts children from six years and older.
    • ROOMS – 8 Twin bedded reed chalets accommodating a maximum of 16 guests.
    • PILOT/GUIDE – 1x Pilot/Guide Room (not same standard as guest rooms).
    • DINING – Various indoor and outdoor dining locations, including a floating deck (weather permitting).
    • CAMP FIRE – Located in the main area of the camp with magical views over the lagoon.
    • SWIMMING POOL – Set within the established gardens in the centre of the island – the perfect place to relax.
    • BAR – Fully stocked, self service bar in the main area.
    • CURIO SHOP – Accepts cash and credit card payments.
    • LAUNDRY – Daily, inclusive laundry service available.
    • WATER – Reverse osmosis water treatment plant supplies drinking water (bottled water on request).
    • ELECTRICITY – Operates on AC 220V generator power during the day and evening. The generator is switched off at night and inverted 12-volt DC lighting provides room and bathroom illumination overnight. 220V AC plug’s are available in guest rooms.
    • INTERNET – Guest laptop available with basic internet connection in the library – there is no Wi-Fi available.

    • EN-SUITE BATHROOM – En-Suite bathrooms with showers, hand basins and toilet facilities.
    • FANS – Fans are available in all rooms – there is no air-conditioning in the rooms.
    • POWER – 220V multi adaptor plugs for charging photographic equipment.
    • SAFE – A small pass-code protected safe for storing valuables.
    • FLASHLIGHT – For use in the rooms at night.
    • AIR HORN – For use in case of an emergency.
    • HAIRDRYER – A small hairdryer is available in each room.
    • BATHROOM AMENITIES – A range of bathroom amenities including biodegradable soaps, shower gels etc.
    • TEA & COFFEE FACILITIES – Small kettle with tea and coffee available.

    The lodge accommodates only sixteen guests in large, raised, reed and thatch lagoon-facing chalets, with en-suite facilities and private viewing decks optimally placed on the shaded fringe of the island.

    Activities

    Xugana Island Lodge is in a private concession offering a range of activities giving you the chance to experience a true Okavango Delta safari. All activities are conducted by experienced professional guides. Explore the crystal-clear waterways by mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) or motorboat for the chance to enjoy the magnificent variety of bird, plant and reptile species found in the area.

    Your experienced guide will also take you on a guided nature walk on surrounding islands in the concession, giving you the chance to experience nature up close and personal. Day and night game drives are also available within the private concession for a chance to search for the prolific wildlife found in the area.

    Catch and release fishing for bream and tiger fish is also offered as an added activity at the lodge (season dependent).

    • MOTORISED BOAT SAFARIS – Guided excursions through the deeper channels and lagoons of the Okavango Delta in hard-bottom aluminum boats. The boats are equipped with comfortable seats, a foldaway canvas roof and life jackets.
    • MOKORO (CANOE) EXCURSIONS – Guided mokoro excursions in traditional dug out canoes. Guests experience the shallower channels and floodplains of the Okavango Delta.
    • GUIDED BUSH WALKS – Bush walks on the surrounding islands offer the opportunity to track the larger species that inhabit the water wilderness. Guided walks are conducted in small groups with two guides.
    • GAME DRIVES – Game drives in open 4WD vehicles to explore the varied ecosystems on the islands within the private concession.
    • NIGHT DRIVES – Optional night drives are available for guests who wish to explore the concession in search of the prolific nocturnal creatures which call the region home.
    • FISHING – Optional fishing excursions to fish for bream (seasonal). All fishing equipment is available at the lodge.
    • BIRD WATCHING – Birding is absolutely spectacular, especially during the summer months when the migrant birds come to breed.
    • HELICOPTER FLIGHTS (SURCHARGES APPLY) – Scenic helicopter flights over the Okavango Delta are available at an additional charge.
