Established in 1964 Tsitsikamma was South Africa's first marine reserve and stretches 5.5km out to sea and covers 68 kilometres of dramatic coastline includes rocky coast deep river gorges and ancient hardwood forests.
The Addo Elephant National Park together with a number of private game reserves are recreating the vast area that was settled in the 1820's.
Addo Elephant National Park is located adjacent to Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape and offers the big 7 in a malaria free area.

The National Park is divided into two sections the De Vasselot section better know as Natures valley this is a wonderful and peaceful section to stay and is one of the quietest parts of the Garden Route with 20 kilometers of beach centered around Groot River Lagoon. Storms River mouth is a craggy shoreline with a small beach, reached via a steep tarred road which twist through the Outinequa forests. The Tsitsikamma National Park is wonderful walking country the shortest is a kilometer along a board walk to Storms River mouth and the suspension bridge.

The Park stretches 68 kilometers along the coastline, includes rocky shoreline river mouths and giant 800 year Yellowwood trees in the indigenous forest There are numerous hiking trails. The Otter Trail is the most well know the 42 kilometers takes 5 days. It is a wonderful coastal walk crossing tidal pools and indigenous forest. This is extremely popular and has to be booked 12 months in advance.

The Dolphin trail is also extremely popular it is 20 kilometers and is completed in 4 days 3 nights. This includes luxury accommodation at 3 different venues. Your luggage is transported so you will only need to carry a days sack. The walk is through the indigenous forest which is full of bird life including the Knysna Loerie.
