The roads are un congested few motorways just good old fashioned A roads. The journey we have chosen takes in Route 62 which is a perfect old fashioned road which winds through wonderful countryside and the world's longest wine route. The roads are well maintained we drive on the left hand side of the road. and petrol is around 4.5 Rand per litre 1/4 of the price in the U. K. For additional excitement in this trip we include a 54 kilometre downhill bicycle ride down the Swartberg Pass. Day 1.Leave Cape Town along the scenic Route 62 take time to visit Tulbagh with its perfect restored 18 th and 19 th Century Cape Dutch buildings. Stay overnight close to Robertson at Olive Garden country Lodge in a luxury room. |

Day 2Spend a full day exploring the region Roberston Winery has some great value chardonnays. Also take the chance to visit McGregor which is South Africa 's best preserved Victorian Karoo village. Overnight accommodation at Olive Garden and Montagu with its hot springs , mountains, valleys and farms. |

Day 3 and 4 Travel on to through Oudtshoorn located in the semi desert Karoo . Visit the Cango Caves, stay overnight at Die Opstal a working Ostrich farm, with great accommodation. The Lodge consists of a group of typical Little Karoo farm buildings, beautifully restored and fitted with modern conveniences, set in lush, tranquil garden surroundings. Day 5 and 6. Carry on along the R62 through George Wilderness and Sedgfield to Knysna regularly voted South Africa 's favourite town you will stay at Knysna Keys which is at the centre of the town adjacent to the lagoon. www.knysnakeys.co.za Accommodation is in a self catering apartment which is inside the Marina . Spend the day exploring Knysna, visit The Heads and the Craft market or enjoy the excellent restaurants JJ's on the waterfront is one of the best.

Day 7. Travel on to Hermanus with overnight accommodation at a luxury guest house. Hermanus is South Africans whale capital and has the world's best land based whale watching as the whales come right into the bay to calve, the season is normally August to October but even out of whale season there is plenty to do. |

Day 8. Leave for a tour of the wine growing district visit Stellenbosch and stop overnight in the village of Franschhoek . South Africa makes great red wine you will stay in a cottage in one of the vineyards. Naturally you will get the chance to sample the wine and have a tour of the vineyard. Day 9. Return to Cape Town just a short drive of just under 1 hour |
