The Addo Elephant National Park together with a number of private game reserves are recreating the vast area that was settled in the 1820's, this will shortly cover an area be 1/2 of the size of Wales, lions, jackals, wild dogs and many other animals absent for 160 years have been re introduced to the area.

Following the release of Nelson Mandela the end of apartheid and the new Government in 1994 tourist began to flock to South Africa. This justified the funding of major projects to expand the park and to introduce back into the area the animals that were wiped out in the last century.
Lions were released into Addo National Park in Oct 2003 and we are anxiously waiting for the first lion cubs to be born in the Addo since 1845. An absence of 160 years.
Pumba Safaris is the latest and most exciting development of 2005 turning the clock back 160 years for a further 6,000 hectares.

The park now is 150 miles 225 km's in length.

Day 1-2.
Leave Port Elizabeth in one of our purpose built Land Rovers for the Addo Elephant National Park.
This is home to over 350 elephants, the highest density of elephants in the world.
The Park now has"The Big 7"as lions were reintroduced last year.
There are over 200 mammal species
Take a newly opened 4 x 4 route through the greater Addo Park, which is currently undergoing a major expansion and now incorporates the former Zuurberg National Park. Rhino have recently been reintroduced into the route we travel and we should be fortunate enough to see them.
Darlington Dam was completed in 1922 and submerged the village of Darlington, it supplies water to the Sundays River Valley where the famous Outspan oranges are grown.At first site the Lake bizarre as it is deep in the semi desert Karoo, which you can imagine is like the surface of the moon

Darlington Lake Lodge is a Karoo oasis. It is extremely stylish and comfortable with incredible gardens and a sparkling swimming pool. Darlington Lake has some of the best fresh water fishing in the country and hosts many National competitions. Spend some time aboard a houseboat on the dam, water ski, parasail, fish, horse ride or just relax at the pool and enjoy the tranquility of this remote area.
Head off after breakfast for Pumba Safaris is another of the amazing success stories of the Eastern Cape. Opening at end of January 2005 animals hunted to extinction in the 1800's have been returned to their natural environment.
Pumba covers 6,000 hectare and not only has the "Big Five" but numerous other animals including the near extinct white lion, and for bird lovers over 300 species.
Five Star facilities enable visitors to see the exciting developments and conservation efforts first hand and to enjoy excellent service and wonderful accommodation.
Pumba Safari Lodge Opened Jan 2005
The accommodation consists of 8 stone-walled, thatched cottages leading off meandering timber footpaths. Each cottage offers a private setting with a unique view of the lake.
The cottages open up onto private timber decks with outside showers and plunge pools. The bathrooms offer under floor heating, dreamy,deep free standing tubs, double basins, terry towel bathrobes and splendid appointments which create an ambience of luxurious indulgence.
Air conditioning, earthenware fireplaces and fine linen ensure your absolute comfort.
Day 5.
Breakfast and morning Game Drive
Leave after Breakfast for the University Town of Grahamstown a small colonial city with avery interesting history on through pineapple growing country to Port Alfred lunch at the Halyards Hotel located adjacent to the Kowie River and back along the Coast Road to see the amazing sand dunes and back to Port Elizabeth for approximately 5.30 pm.
